Eve's Ink
Website for the dog kennel Eve's Ink.
Eve’s Ink is a dog kennel that needed a website they could keep up to date themselves, with regular news about what’s happening at the kennel. Their old site and its hosting weren’t working well, so they reached out to me.
I rebuilt the site from scratch in Nuxt. The visual design came from their previous site, but I refined it to make the design choices more consistent, and kept the code DRY with reusable components so it stays simple to maintain. Hosting isn’t something I usually offer, but I made an exception for this project: the website and the Directus CMS behind it both run in Docker on my own server, with OneDev handling deployments.
This was my first project for a real client outside my full-time job, and it taught me a lot about building for non-technical users. Directus has its own admin interface, but it was too complicated for the kennel to learn and use easily, so I built a simpler admin area directly on the site. From there they can post updates and change content across the site, and everything is saved to Directus behind the scenes, so the CMS still does the heavy lifting without them ever having to log in to it.
